SHELL HARBOR PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION -  MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Shell Harbor Property Owner's Association (SHPOA) is to protect the quality and value of our properties by maintaining and protecting the beach access and the canals, by promoting a friendly, cooperative neighborhood atmosphere and by adhering to the environmental standards set by the City of Sanibel to protect and preserve the natural attributes of this Island.

REMEMBER THAT AS OWNERS IN THIS ASSOCIATION, OUR MAJOR, SHARED VALUE LIES IN THE COMMON, SHARED BEACH ACCESS AND PARKING, AS WELL AS IN OUR MANY CANALS.  ALL RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO RESPECT AND HELP TO MAINTAIN THESE TWO ASSETS.

The following are Guidelines offered for being good neighbors in Shell Harbor:

Be a Good Neighbor

- Welcome new neighbors to Shell Harbor and lend a hand as they get to know our neighborhood;

- Volunteer for SHPOA Committees to help make a difference in our community;

- If a community problem arises, work toward resolution;

- Follow all Sanibel City ordinances; they are in place to keep our community special.

Property Appearance

- Recreational vehicles or boat/trailers should not be stored long term on driveways or elsewhere on your property on dry land;

- Commercial vehicles owners or used by residents should be garaged, whenever possible;

- Trash recycling containers and vegetation debris should not be set out more than 24 hours before anticipated pickup;

- Adequate maintenance by absentee or seasonal owners, including mowing of vacant lots, is essential for community integrity;

- No vacation rental, vehicle or boat "for sale" signs should be posted on properties;

- Keep garage doors closed whenever possible; this is a Sanibel Policy Department security recommendation.

Day to Day Activities

- Limit yard service work with power equipment to weekdays between 8am and 5pm avoiding weekends;

- Yard debris, including grass clippings, should not be blown or thrown into canals; yard service employees can be the greatest offenders, and should be reminded;

- Dogs should always be leashed per City ordinance; please clean up after your pets and take steps to prevent incessant barking;

- Avoid high volume music beyond property boundaries;

- Prevent yard and dock lights from shining onto neighbors' properties and obey Sanibel's Dark Skies ordinance;

- Respect the NO WAKE speed limit in all canals, excess speed will degrade seawalls which is detrimental to everyone.
